A friend brought me to see a gig, and
it happened to be a four piece Sardinian all girls heavy metal-indie band. (well
I think they are heavy metal, even if SOMEONE keeps saying they are indie, because
HE does not like heavy metal hehe)
They were fantastic, so we went back to see them again. My friend, who knew
the singer from somewhere, said he spoke to them about me and told them I did
dresses. then one day sent me a weird text message saying he'd spoken to them
and they wanted 4 similar dresses for their gig!
At their 3rd gig, I took the courage and went to speak to Lisa (who's name I
forgot and I kept thinking she was Marina, for ages) who was very nice, and
showed interest in my dresses. She said they had a very important gig in a few
weeks, supporting the band called "HIM" at the Hammersmith Apollo,
and she would like something very special to wear to that.
We exchanged numbers, but only got in touch a couple of weeks later, and we
eventually met up with the other girls for a chat then to get some fabrics.
(a week before the gig was due)

They individually told me about what
they wished to have, and we worked on a FFW basis (favours for work) . They
saw the dresses I did in the last year, but weren't sure about what they were
going to get...We went to get the fabric on the thursday afternoon, and I went
to see them at their homes the tuesday after, after my sewing course, for the
fittings of the four dresses.(and for a nice meal!)I was left with 3 days to
do the last bits, and to make Jessica a black dress more to her liking. The
dresses were "delivered" on the friday night, and their gig was on
the saturday.
I think for the first time in my life I experienced stress. If the cat hadn't been here encouraging me I 'd have had no hair left. But the result was there, and to thank me they got me and my friend from Wild Blanket a guestlist pass to come and see them at the HAMMERSMITH Apollo! And we did not even have to queue like all the HIM fans ;-)

Very unfortunatly the Apollo was very
strict about guestlist and said none of their friends or anyone was allowed
in with a camera....Or would be chucked out and the band would get in trouble....
! So we could not take any photos, except when we got there we saw all the Him
and Cathedral's fans getting their mobile phones out and flashing away. Anyway
we got one or 2 of them outside after the gig, but could not see everyone.
The gig was fantastic, they looked superb and I was very proud :-) Cathedral's
music was boring and loud(not my style, rather tidious heavy metal) and Him
were probably ok as they were headlining but by that point we were both very
hungry and went outside to find a restaurant. (see links and the lovely moroccan
in Hammersmith!)
We kept in touch with the girls, and as l wanted to make them a second outfit, they happily agreed as they were going on tour with a great rock band called "Breed 77"(less well known than HIM) on an England tour, and we worked on a second lot of outfits. Which were a bit less impressive I must admit, but then by then they were tired and could not think of extravagant ideas (and we only had a week left...so they did not want to tire me out :-)

I got to meet them in their rehearsal
room, Alice loved her dress, Marina not quite so I made her another one a bit
later.Aparently the tour went really well, they had a lot of fun, and we got
to see the last gig they did with Breed 77 at the Aldershot West End centre.
It was a pity that they could not get 2 of my friends in, (only one was allowed
on the guestlist) so as the venue had reached its limit (200 people) and they
would not let my other friend in even if he paid , we agreed to take it in turn
and each of us went for a few minutes to see them play, whilst the Wild Blanket
director was doing his job of photographying the dresses and the girls for us.
The director of the venue, who was a lovely gorgeous man (unfortunatly married)
seeing our distress nicely took both of us to see the last 2 songs of the gig
at a very special place, above the stage room, next to the lighting man! It
was very special and it was a shame I could not kiss him to say thanks (well
you don't do that in England do you, otherwise they think you are after them)(which
I might have been)and it was a very good gig from the girls. Alice was wearing
her Apollo Paysanne dress, and Marina was wearing with style the dress I made
for her that day to replace the ugly one I had done for their tour.
Lisa was wearing Marina's Apollo dress and I could not see what Jessica was
wearing, probably a short black dress.
Their manager, who I happen to know, took us backstage after the gig , (seeing
our distress and not being able to help)so we could get a really good view of
Breed 77, who were fantastic (a band from Gibraltar). They said they didn't want
dresses though, except the drummer who didn't get back to me (he chickened out
about the dresses ;-) ) and we got to see the girls!
So this is all about Mab, and for the
moment no more outfits are planned, even though Alice has said she had drawn
another hundred designs of dresses whilst on tour. We will see!
You can visit their website and come to see them at their gigs, they are beautiful
and fantastic. And not only the dresses!
